In the spring of 1986, a group of students came together to launch a project for change: founding the first environmental law organization in Peru. It was out of this commitment to address the country’s core problems through far-reaching solutions that the Peruvian Society for Environmental Law (SPDA) was established.
Over the years, through collaborative and pioneering work, we have driven initiatives that helped shape the country’s environmental institutions: supporting the drafting of the Code on the Environment and Natural Resources (1990), as well as the creation of the National Council for the Environment (1994) and the Ministry of the Environment (2008).
The dream continues to grow. Today, we have a multidisciplinary team, a presence in most regions of the country, the support of more than 20 international donors, various agreements with national entities, and active participation in regional and global networks to amplify our environmental impact. More than four generations have passed through the SPDA with a shared vision: to build the Peru we want.
