Almost 10 years ago, the construction of Odebrecht’s Chadín 2 and Enel’s Veracruz hydroelectric mega-dams on the Marañón River was approved. Today they are paralysed and no longer commercially viable. Local populations oppose their construction and specialists warn that doing so would be an ecological catastrophe.
