Voluntary Conservation

SPDA

We support voluntary conservation initiatives and networks and involve more people in strategic conservation actions.

In Peru, there are thousands of people preserving the country in an entirely voluntary manner. Communities looking after brushlands in the highlands and provide water to a city, people who have turned farms and paddocks into wildlife shelters, individuals who have dedicated themselves to saving the remnants of the huarango forests in the desert.

This is why it is important to strengthen and support these initiatives in order to have ever more people dedicated to the care of nature in all its fronts. This is also why several citizen campaigns are being designed to directly support the different voluntary conservation initiatives in Peru.

In this sense, SPDA’s proposal is developed through four lines of action:

  • Advice for the acknowledgment of Private Conservation Areas (ACP).
  • Tourist promotion of voluntary conservation initiatives.
  • Institutionality of Other Effective Measures of Conservation Based in Areas (OMEC, in Spanish).
  • Financial sustainability.
