We improve the governance for an appropriate management and the conservation of fisheries and marine-coastal ecosystems.

With over 3 thousand kilometers of coast line and one of the most productive seas in the world, Peru has among its main challenges the management of marine-coastal ecosystems, as well as the species living there. However, Peru faces major threats, such as resource overexploitation, deterioration of habitats, and pollution, among others.

Thus, the appropriate management of the marine-coastal reality, as well as the sustainable management of fisheries through capacity building, the improvement of the regulatory frameworks, and the promotion of citizens in their conservation, are essential actions for the protection of this ecosystem.

This is why at the SPDA we have been working in the following key actions:

• Promotion of responsible fishing through the formalization of artisanal fishermen, the appropriate management of resources within the first five miles, capacity building for fishermen, officials and scholars, and the strengthening of mechanisms for citizen participation.
• Prompting the marine spatial planning to prevent the construction of infrastructure which does not take into account the environmental and social dynamics of the intervened space.
• Protection of marine wildlife and threatened species to guarantee the conservation of water resources and the species that depend upon them, as well as the health of the sea.
• Awareness raising for people on the use of plastic to halt the pollution affecting the seas.
