SPDA

Trough our work, we support the reduction of deforestation and deterioration of Peruvian forests with evidence-based tools.

Peru is the fourth country in the world in forest coverage. Over 60 percent of our territory is covered by this biodiverse ecosystem. The timber and non-timber resources, as well as the environmental services rendered to the population, are assets for local, regional and national development.

However, deforestation and deterioration are continuing every year at an alarming rate causing major losses of forests, which affect our wellbeing at all levels. This is why we want to have forests, forest resources, forest lands, and forest ecosystem services well regarded and valued, and used in a comprehensive way in order to create development opportunities for large numbers of the population.

In this regard, our proposal at the SPDA is carried out through four work lines:

  • Promotion of sustainable farming in the Amazon.
  • Supporting local governance and participation.
  • Designing tools to reduce deforestation and deterioration.
  • Driving the sustainable use of timber and non-timber products.
