Marylia Vargas Linares has been working as a Fisheries Formalization Specialist in the Marine Governance Program of the Peruvian Society for Environmental Law since 2022.
Marylia holds a degree in fisheries engineering and aquaculture from the Federico Villarreal National University. She has experience in public management, project management, conflict management, and integrated management systems for quality, the environment, safety, occupational health, and social responsibility. She has worked in the fisheries sector on issues related to fisheries formalization, capacity building, and database management.
As a specialist in fisheries formalization, she currently advises the SPDA team and its partners, including state entities, artisanal fishermen’s organizations, and civil society entities, on issues related to formalization. In addition, he provides assistance and guidance to shipowners and artisanal fishermen in the procedures necessary to achieve formalization in the context of the Siforpa 2 and Cooperatives processes. His work also includes the preparation of technical-legal analyses with the aim of consolidating the legal and institutional framework, promoting more sustainable fisheries.
His work contributed to consolidating the processes of legalizing informal fishing operations. He led a team of 32 extension workers at the national level focused on strengthening artisanal fishing to increase the productivity of artisanal fishermen. His work in promoting fishing contributed to boosting the competitiveness of agents in the sector.
