Juan Alexander Carranza Aybar has been working as a Legal Assistant in the Marine Governance Program of the Peruvian Society for Environmental Law since January 2025.
Juan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the National University of San Marcos. He has more than four years of professional experience in environmental governance and policy. He has worked as a consultant at the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM), an advisor in the ProAmbiente program at GITEC-IGIP GmbH, and an analyst and professional practitioner at the Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency (OEFA). In addition, he has participated in academic exchanges in Colombia, Mexico, and Japan.
As a Legal Assistant, he currently conducts legal research on marine governance and marine-coastal ecosystem conservation; supports the development and review of policies, regulations, and environmental management instruments for the marine-coastal environment; and coordinates with public and private actors to strengthen governance in marine conservation, with a special emphasis on marine protected areas and other conservation modalities.
Juan ranked first in the Law specialization of the OEFA University Extension Course in Environmental Oversight (2021), and second in the I Moot on Environmental Law, organized by the Universidad Científica del Sur (2020). He also took first place in competitions such as the Ideathon of the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (2024) and the First Interuniversity Citizenship Tournament “Let’s Talk About Change” (2018). He is co-founder of the youth organization “Lima Verde” and the Research Center for International Affairs.
