Diego Pérez Romero has been working as communications coordinator for the Biodiversity and Indigenous Peoples program at the Peruvian Society for Environmental Law since 2019.

Diego studied communication sciences at the University of Lima. He has more than 15 years of experience in the field of communications for conservation, also standing out as a photographer and filmmaker, collaborating with the main organizations dedicated to conservation and sustainable development in the country, such as WWF, WCS, CI, OXFAM, GIZ, National Geographic, and several others.

As a communications consultant, he currently designs and implements impactful communication strategies, plans, and actions aimed at promoting the creation of new Protected Natural Areas, strengthening the rights of indigenous peoples, and raising awareness about the growing threats faced by defenders of the environment and the territory.

Since joining SPDA, his work on the #TambopataLibre campaign has been particularly noteworthy, receiving the 2019 Antonio Brack Egg Award from the Ministry of the Environment in the Environmental Communication Strategy category. He also stands out for his participation as director of photography in the documentary Shirampari, which premiered at more than 50 film festivals around the world, including the Sundance Film Festival. Finally, it is worth recognizing his work in the design and implementation of the indigenous communicators program, whose main achievement is the documentary Sha’á, by Peregrino Shanocua, which has been screened at Climate Week in New York, COP 28 in Dubai, and several other events.
