The course “Environmental Defenders: Rights and Mechanisms for Their Protection” aims to strengthen participants’ skills and knowledge regarding the rights and obligations of the State in protecting those who defend the environment and the territory.

This is thefirst course in Peru to offer academic certification in this field. This training, developed by the SPDA and co-taught with the Institute for Democracy and Human Rights at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (Idehpucp), features a unique methodology co-designed and validated directly with indigenous organizations representing the Peruvian Amazon, in addition to the participation of specialized institutions.

Since 2025, the course has been held in Madre de Dios, Loreto, Ucayali, and Lima with approximately 200 participants (56.76% women and 41.62% Indigenous), including Indigenous defenders, journalists, communicators, and various professionals committed to defending the environment and the territory.
