For 17 years, the Carlos Ponce del Prado Conservation Award has been encouraging and recognizing the work of more than 90 environmental leaders and park rangers who actively work to conserve Peru's biological diversity.

This award is inspired by the work and legacy of engineer Carlos Ponce, a teacher, role model, and one of the best-known and most beloved figures in the recent history of nature conservation. His ability to engage in dialogue, his commitment to teamwork, and his optimistic view of the value of nature are the values that are highlighted and recognized in this award that bears his name.

There are five categories of recognition to which you can apply:

  • The Conservation Architect category is for those who have dedicated more than 20 years to the conservation movement, with a prize of S/.12,000.
  • The Distinguished Park Ranger category is for those who have inspired identity and pride in this profession for more than 20 years.
  • The Outstanding Park Ranger category is for those who have achieved recognized local coordination for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Both categories come with a prize of S/.7,000.
  • Outstanding Young Conservationists, under the age of 35, will be recognized with a prize of S/.5,500.

The award also provides honorary recognition for the historical trajectory of a conservationist who has contributed significantly throughout their life to advancing the agenda for a sustainable and natural Peru in the category of Environmental Personality. People such as Antonio Brack Egg, Peru's first Minister of the Environment; Marc Dourojeanni, one of the architects of Peru's system of protected natural areas; and Lelis Rivera, recognized in 2024 for dedicating more than 40 years of his life to securing more than 5 million hectares for indigenous peoples in the Peruvian Amazon, are some of those recognized in this category.

If you are interested in promoting scientific research in both marine and terrestrial fields, you can apply for research grants of up to $2,000 awarded by Conservación Amazónica (ACCA) and the SPDA, aimed at both individuals and undergraduate and master's students.

Don't miss this opportunity to recognize the people who inspire you and represent the true spirit of conservation. You can find all the information about the award and how to apply at: https://premiocarlosponce.pe/

The closing date for the Carlos Ponce del Prado Conservation Award is August 1.
