The giant squid or pota (Ommastrephidae), as it is known in Peru, is the most important artisanal fishery in the country, directly employing more than 30 thousand people, including fishermen and boat owners. Likewise, this species is processed in our country and becomes an export product that generates more than 500 million dollars in foreign currency.
These data are presented in the documentary “Pota: una pesca gigante”, recently published by the SPDA, which also presents the agents involved in the processing of this species, who explain how pota and the Peruvian sea play a fundamental role in their lives.
