Behind the Dirty Gold

Through images and testimonies of illegal miners, researchers and authorities, "Las rutas del oro" reveals how this activity is carried out in one of the most biodiverse areas of the world, and why efforts to stop the illegal gold trade have not been enough.

The documentary shows, for example, what happens in La Pampa and Huepetuhe, in Madre de Dios; what the dynamics are in Chejepampa, a lawless fair on the border between Peru and Bolivia, where every Friday people from both countries buy and sell gold without any kind of control; and what the dynamics of illegal trade are on the border that divides Bolivian and Brazilian territory.
