Conservamos por Naturaleza (We Conserve for Nature) in association with Patagonia presents the first Peruvian production that portrays the efforts of the collective of Peruvian surfers who succeeded in getting the waves of our coasts protected by law.

In the 1980s, La Herradura beach was destroyed. In the nineties, the Cabo Blanco wave was affected after having been in danger of disappearing. Thanks to the Law of Breakers, Peru became the first country in the world to have a legal system to protect the waves. However, in order to ensure their preservation, technical files were needed for each breaker. Therefore, in 2015 our “HAZla por tu Ola” (Act for your wave) campaign was born, in order to raise the necessary funds for the elaboration of these documents. Thousands of people have joined this campaign, achieving that 24 waves are already legally protected.

“A La Mar” tells the story of how these citizen actions drove change through its main protagonists: Cabo Blanco fishermen and surfers, including Eduardo Tume, Carlos Chapilliquén, Carolina Butrich, Javier Fernández, Magoo de la Rosa, Fernando Fernandini and David Fiorani.

This documentary shows the full potential of the Peruvian sea and its resources, and the beauty and power of the waves, making Peru a key destination for water sports. In addition, as part of the scheme proposed by Patagonia and hosted by Conservamos por Naturaleza (We Conserve by Nature), you, as viewers, are invited to organize your own screenings and thus motivate more people to get involved in the protection of the Peruvian coast.

Conservamos por Naturaleza, an initiative of the Peruvian Society for Environmental Law (SPDA), and Proyectos Audiovisuales Independientes, producers of this film, are pleased to present A La Mar, a documentary about the protection of Peruvian waves.
