Indigenous Communicators Programme

Theoretical and practical training in communication and leadership for indigenous youth from the Peruvian Amazon, complemented by the articulation of communicators' networks and project development opportunities.

At SPDA, we believe that developing communication and leadership skills is a key and urgent strategy for indigenous peoples to make their voices heard through various communication products and strategies.

For this reason, we promote the Indigenous Communicators Program to provide effective tools for indigenous youth to generate information from their communities through products such as reports, documentaries, photo specials, news articles, among others.

The program proactively seeks the participation of indigenous organizations, which facilitates interaction with youth in communities and creates a space where they can learn first-hand about needs and demands and then propose solutions using communication tools.

Participants are trained in the principles of photography, video and writing, and learn to use everyday tools such as cell phones to create audiovisual content. This is developed thanks to the theoretical and practical courses of the program.

The courses are taught by SPDA specialists as well as renowned regional and national communicators. At the end of the course, each participant presents a proposal for a communication project, and the best ones are funded for implementation.

So far, SPDA has developed four editions of this program in Madre de Dios, with the support of the National Federation of the Madre de Dios River and its tributaries (Fenamad) and the Executor of the Administrative Contract of the Amarakaeri Communal Reserve (ECA Amarakaeri).
