Illegal wildlife trade has a variety of purposes: petting, private collecting, trade in wildlife products such as handicrafts, among others. This illegal activity has negative effects on biodiversity and conservation and represents a risk of spreading zoonotic diseases.

In this sense, journalism and the media play a very important role in this complex problem.

This research, carried out together with World Animal Protection, analyzes the development of news in Peru and Latin America, between January and August 2023, that address the issue of wildlife trafficking. This news mapping seeks to analyze opportunities to improve journalistic practices in this area.
